Kloovenburg @ Riebeek Kasteel
Kloovenburg vineyards stretch along the lower contours of Kasteelberg, offering a diverse collection of soils, altitudes and different slopes. Of the farm's 300 hectares, 110 are under wine grapes, the best 30% of which are reserved for making Kloovenburg's own Wines.
The farm has 23 ha of Olive Groves. The olive cultivars planted on the farm are mainly Mission, and the olives are handpicked and caught in nets to prevent them from bruising. The farm also produced Table Grapes, mostly for export, although in season, grapes can be purchased directly from Kloovenburg. Kloovenburg also grows Parisian figs, also known as Evita. The fruit is sweet, with a good balance of acids to enhance the flavour. Harvest starts at the beginning of February and usually lasts for up to two months. Kloovenburg has a range of fine red, white and sparkling wines, olives and olive products, most of which can be sampled and purchased at their cellar. |
